The Department of Cardboard Hats is a Design Thinking activity introduced before PBL units. Participants learn skills of social creativity through a process of making. The focus on criteria and constraints creates a purposeful language around innovation. The embedded thinking routines can be applied to a project path or on their own. Most importantly, hat makers bring joyful pieces of themselves to the process and share in a supportive community!
